International supermodel Tyra Banks, whose tweets have gone viral due to her praises for Catriona Gray and her lava walk, finally had the chance to interview the Miss Universe 2018 for the latest issue of American fashion magazine V.
The interview, which seemed to be conducted via phone or video call, revolved around Tyra Bank’s tweets, Catriona’s iconic lava walk, beauty tips, and her charity work.
At that time, Catriona was in Indonesia, while Tyra was in California.
“I’m still recovering from your “Lava Walk” at the Miss Universe pageant. I just kept watching and rewatching, like, What’s her secret? I was totally fangirling!” Tyra said.
Catriona revealed that she was having dinner with all the other contestants when she saw the notifications flooding her timeline.
“I turned to my two friends, Sweden and Denmark, and started freaking out, like, Oh my gosh, Tyra Banks just tweeted about my walk!” Catriona responded.
At that point, Tyra thought that Catriona already won the pageant when she saw the headlines, “Tyra is rooting for Catriona!”, and hoped that she was not hinting a sign of favoritism but simply support.
The topic proceeded with how Filipinos support each other, specifically when it comes to pageantry and the Miss Universe.
“It’s something Filipinos often do: support our Filipino representatives, when we have them. And I freaked out when you tweeted me! You writing “Pinoy Power” was a proud moment for me and all Filipinos,” the 25-year-old beauty queen said.
The interview also disclosed that Catriona had scoliosis, which Tyra described as “flawsome”, as in her flaws were awesome, and praised Catriona’s walk and how she arched her back during the pageant.
Other topics such as beauty secrets, Catriona’s journey to success, her story pre-Miss Universe, and the charity she has been working on since were also discussed in the interview.
Catriona works for a charity called Young Focus Philippines wherein they give free schooling for the children around the Tondo neighborhood in Manila.
“Education is a solution to poverty; it’s something you can give a child that can never be taken away,” the Miss Universe 2018 said.
Shortly after the interview was published online on May 2, Thursday, Catriona shared photos of her during the V photoshoot on Instagram called it as a “pinch-me moment.”
Titled “Across The Universe”, the interview will appear in the V119 music issue.
