K-pop boy band 2PM’s Taecyeon has been discharged after completing military service.
Taecyeon served as an active-duty soldier for 20 months since enlisting on Sept. 4, 2017, the day that marked the ninth anniversary of 2PM since their debut in 2008.
Fans and the media waited for Taecyeon’s discharge from the 9th Infantry Division, or White Horse Division, in Goyang in Gyeonggi Province, South Korea. Fellow 2PM member Chansung also went to Goyang to welcome him back.
During his military service, Taecyeon served as a teaching assistant in the military recruitment training center. Last April, he was recognized as a model soldier by the Military Manpower Administration (MMA), which supervises military service in South Korea.
Taecyeon gave up his US Green Card to fulfill military service in South Korea, a mandatory duty for all able-bodied males. He also underwent disk surgery so he could serve as an active-duty soldier.
He started as an artist under JYP Entertainment but in July last year, Taecyeon opted to leave the agency and signed up with 51K Company. But JYP Entertainment said he will continue to be a member of 2PM.
51K said Taecyeon will continue to be active as a member of 2PM and as actor.
