James Reid has spoken up about his decision to reject reggae singer Luke Baylon when the latter auditioned for Idol Philippines.
On Twitter, Reid addressed people who have been criticizing him and fellow judges Vice Ganda and Moira dela Torre for saying ‘no’ to the 21-year-old aspiring singer from Tuguegarao City.
“You have no idea how hard it is to crush people’s dreams right in front of them. That’s the burden we carry as judges to try and give one special person a chance of a lifetime. Just wait. The auditions aren’t even the hardest part,” Reid tweeted.
In another tweet, Reid praised Baylon and his “sick” version of Alicia Keys’ “If I Ain’t Got You”.
“Like I said, Luke Baylon is a good singer but we’re looking for the total package. Wait till you see the 12 finalists. You’ll see why I said he wasn’t ready. For now, I wish Luke all the success is his music career,” tweeted the actor-singer.
Baylon’s audition was uploaded on YouTube on Sunday, May 12, since then the clip has garnered a total of 4,331,181 views.
Since his audition, Baylon has received support and praise from netizens and artists like JK Labajo and Quest.
Labajo said he was “ashamed” of the judge’s decision to let go of Baylon who he described as someone who had “soul”.
Quest, meanwhile, expressed willingness to work with the young reggae singer.
“Can someone connect me to Luke Baylon. I wanna work with him. He is good,” the singer tweeted.
