Some people think they must have good looks too in order to make the girls swoon and, thus, win more fans. Really?

We asked “The Voice Philippines” alumnus Jem Cubil, an attractive guy himself. Well, the neophyte singer admitted his looks factor into his blossoming career.

“I noticed that every time I do mall shows, (having good looks) is really a big factor to draw in more people,” he told Bulletin Entertainment. “Yes, there are a lot of talented singers around, but the physical appearance matters too. Let’s not forget that business is business.”

But Jem also believes good looks will have no use in the long run if one doesn’t have the talent to back it up.
“Beauty fades but not talent. If you don’t do great music, you don’t sing well, you will soon be forgotten,” he pointed out.

“So it’s a matter of balance. You should look presentable and at the same time, show them what you are capable of.”

Jem has been a Viva artist for three years now. And by the looks for it, he’s “more than satisfied” with what’s happening to his career.

“It’s been a crazy rollercoaster ride. I’ve been through ups and downs, pain and hardships. But with the help of my management, I can truly say I am contented with how my career is going, plus, I got to know myself better because of my experiences,” he said.

He has just released the song “Tanong,” which he also wrote and produced. Jem shared he initially dedicated it to his ex-girlfriend.

“That time, our breakup was still fresh,” he said. “But as the days went by, it turned out the song took on a different meaning to me. It’s like a realization of life rather than love. It’s not simply a love song for relationship. It’s love in general, one thing constant in this world.”

Apart from singing, Jem is into acting. He starred on Sari-Sari Channel’s “Ghost Adventures” alongside Benjie Paras and comedian Chad Kinis, among others.

How’s the experience, we asked.

“Solid!” he exclaimed. “I mean, I never see myself doing such… na ‘kaya ko pala.’ It was a great opportunity for me.”

As for his future plans, Jem hopes to release an album by end of the year. He also dreams of starring in a teleserye alongside Kathryn Bernardo – his ultimate celebrity crush.
