BINAN, Laguna – Richard Gomez emerged as one of the grand winners in the Mister and Miss Biñan 2019 pageant during the grand coronation held at the Alonte Stadium here last Sunday.
Gomez, namesake of the popular actor-turned-mayor of Ormoc City and husband of Rep. Lucy Torres, was proclaimed winner along with Aubrey Ambas. Both represented Barangay San Antonio here.
They also received P100,000 cash each and other prizes.
Asked what she will do with the prize money, Ambas said: “I haven’t thought about it yet.”
Gomez answered: “I will use it in school.”
Other winners were Kenrick John Hammond and Aira Villanueva, 1st runner-up, and Mark Mardon Avendano, and Leoniza Codizal, 2nd runner-up.
Twenty-eight candidates – 14 girls and 14 boys – competed in this contest which is part of the Biñan Puto Latik Festival spearheaded by the local government unit of Binan, Laguna headed by Mayor Arman Dimaguila through the Binan City Culture, History, Arts and Tourism Office (BCHATO) led by BJ Borja.
During the finals, they competed in swimwear, formal wear, and question-and-answer portion.
The Mister and Miss Biñan 2019 pageant was presented by Team Gouldian headed by Makoy Manlapaz.
Some members of the board of judges were former Mister International Neil Perez, Gab Lagman, and Popoy Caritativo.
Biñan is recognized as a major economic center in the province of Laguna for its industrial parks. It is also home to growing mixed-use developments. (Robert R. Requintina)
