It’s a busy year for Filipino-Italian actor and director Ruben Maria Soriquez.
He had just wrapped up shoot for “The Immortal Hunters,” an action-horror movie directed by Paolo Bertola. It is in post-production.
After playing David Pascal on “The General’s Daughter,” Ruben is in Italy for the second edition of the European Philippine International Film Festival (EPIFF) that he co-founded with the Philippine Italian Association (PIA), the Italian Chamber of Commerce in the Philippines (ICCPI), and Film Development Council of the Philippines (FDCP).
One of the films he directed and starred in, the comedy-thriller “The Spider’s Man,” will be released in the US, Canada, and Europe by Leomark Studios in Los Angeles. Richard Quan, Lee O’Brian, Jeff Tam, and Rob Sy are his co-stars.
Horror film “The Lease,” starring Ruben and Garie Concepcion, will not just be shown in the US, Europe, and Canada, but also for theatrical release in India by Dhalanjay Galani, Mumbai. The movie is directed by Paolo Bertola and produced by Mario Alaman.
“I think it’s the first time for a small independent film from the Philippines to have theatrical distribution in India,” said Ruben. “We already signed the deal, and I think it’s a great opportunity to showcase the Philippines there, especially since ‘The Lease’ was shot in scenic Tagaytay,” he said.
Another project of Ruben to look out for is Steven Seagal’s “General Commander” on May 28 wherein Ruben plays the mafia member Santino Amato. The film will be distributed by Lionsgate.
Ruben intends to be based in the US so he can focus more on his international career.
“I am currently working on an American TV series,” shared Ruben. “It’s going to be a long process but I am very excited about it.”
