Korean actor Kang Ha-neul has finished his military service after serving as an active duty soldier for 20 months.
The 29-year-old star was discharged on May 23 from the Gyeryongdae Service Support Corps in South Chungcheong Province in South Korea. He enlisted on Sept. 11, 2017.
Upon his discharge, he faced the media and expressed his thoughts on his life while fulfilling his military service, a mandatory duty for all Korean men.
“I studied a lot and read a lot of books. It was two years of meaningful time,” he said, adding that the first things that he wanted to do immediately after discharge were to call his parents and buy and drink a cold beer.
While in military service, Kang Ha-neul starred in the Korean musical “Shinheung Military Academy” which was sponsored by the Korean army.
After his discharge, Kang Ha-neul will star in the drama “When Camellia Blooms,” which will air on KBS2 starting in September.
His last drama before enlistment was “Moon Lovers: Scarlet Heart Ryeo” in 2016. His last films were “Forgotten” and “Midnight Runners.”
