Binibini candidate Louisielle Denise Omorog of Catanduanes is on a mission to bring back the morena beauty in Binibining Pilipinas and even in Miss Universe beauty contest.
“Don’t get me wrong. Pia Wurtzbach and Catriona Gray have done great in beauty pageants. They have brought honor to the country. But I hope a morena beauty like me will shine in the competition,” said Omorog, during a meet-and-greet event held at Pizza Hut, Araneta Center in Quezon City over the weekend.
The last time a morena beauty won the Bb. Pilipinas Universe title was in 2010 which was captured by Ma. Venus Raj. She later finished 5th in the Miss Universe contest in Las Vegas.
Since then, all the representatives in the Miss Universe contest were either fair or white-skinned.
Omorog, 24, also downplayed the negative connotation of an exotic look.
“I don’t think it implies a negative peg. All of us are unique and we should embrace diversity,” she said.
Omorog also advocates the protection and rights of indigenous people, particularly the Aetas community.
Just recently, Omorog went to Bataan and visited their community where she learned and observed deeper more about their situation, problems, and the support they need.
Of the 40 official candidates in this year’s Bb. Pilipinas pageant, Omorog describes Emma Tiglao as one of the girls to beat.
“Ate Emma is so prepared. She really prepared for this competition and I admire her efforts,” she said.
Omorog is a graduate of Consular and Diplomatic Affairs at the De La Salle College of St. Benilde.
She also earned a certificate in a French immersion program in France.
A well-traveled person, Omorog has gone to Europe and frequently visits Dubai. She is the second child of four children. She also loves food.
The grand coronation of Bb. Pilipinas 2019 beauty pageant will be held at the Smart Araneta Coliseum in Quezon City on June 9.
