Betita’s controversial comment happened dawn of Monday, right after the coronation night of Binibining Pilipinas 2019. Padilla and Reid were among the judges at the competition.

The issue began when Betita posted a photo of her and Padilla, along with other former beauty queens on Instagram story. She wrote: “Daniel Padilla is much nicer and more accommodating than James Reid #fortherecord.”

On the comments section, a follower suggested she should have also taken a photo with Reid and his girlfriend, Nadine Lustre.

Apparently, Betita claimed Reid is “Hind siya friendly!”

This earned the ire of many fans, reiterating that “James is a good man. One failed photo op cannot change that.”

Betita then took to Twitter and said she didn‘t realize the impact her opinion would make on fans.

“I didn‘t realize the gravity of what I thought was just my opinion. Obviously made so many JaDine fans seething with anger attacking me,” she wrote. “Ok, I sincerely apologize if I hurt your feelings. I judged an innocent guy and made a careless comment.”

“Respect begets respect. Thank you to the others who personally messaged me and encouraged me to just come out on Twitter where I guess #fortherecord was created alluding to me and humbly apologize. So there. [Peace out] everyone and God bless us all,” she added.

It appears Betita has gone private on the social media platform since her apology.

Reid hasn’t commented on the issue as of press time.
