Hundreds of people complaining about a promo relating to the recent meet and greet of BLACKPINK in Manila will soon receive a full refund.
This was confirmed by online retailer Shopee Philippines through a statement released Friday.
According to the e-commerce platform, they will provide full refund those who were “incorrectly told” they had won tickets for the event.
A few weeks back, Shopee Philippines gave Filipinos a chance to meet the popular South Korean group by holding an online promo. The Top 40 spenders during the promo period could get autographs from band members Jisoo, Jennie Kim, Lisa, and Rosé.
However, some fans expressed dismay, claiming they were “scammed” after their tickets were taken back allegedly due to an error.
“As a token of goodwill, we have already offered each of those 119 affected fans a full refund of the costs incurred as part of their participation in the campaign, including the amount spent on Shopee during the campaign and travel costs if they traveled from outside of Metro Manila,” it said.
They explained some tickets were revoked due to “system error and not due to a change in promotional mechanics.”
“An internal system error led to some initial inaccuracies in the automatically generated winner list, and 119 incorrectly issued tickets had to be revoked as a result. We took immediate steps as soon as we discovered the error to ensure the rightful winners could claim their prizes,” it said.
“We would like to assure all fans that there was no point at which tickets that were initially allocated for fans were reallocated to celebrities and influencers.”
Following the incident, the Department of Trade and Industry has been coordinating with the online selling app in order to settle the issue.
