Singer Rachelle Ann Go couldn’t contain her happiness over sharing the stage once more with Broadway star Lea Salonga.
On Instagram, she said it was an honor to perform with the seasoned singer-actress at a concert. “What a joy to witness this and be a part of the show tonight. The QUEEN, (Lea Salonga)!” Rachelle Ann wrote.
The “Human Heart” concert held at The London Palladium in the United Kingdom saw them sing a duet of Whitney and Cissy Houston’s “I Know Him So Well.”
Broadway World posted an Instagram story showing the Filipino thespians rendering that song. Both Lea and Rachelle reposted the clip.
“Yup, this happened!” Lea wrote along with the video, while Rachelle put heart emoji.
The 32-year-old singer also revealed a behind-the-scenes story that took place before their performance.
“Okay… I was so full of JOY, I couldn’t contain it so I started jumping,” she revealed. “Sorry @msleasalonga I was so overwhelmed.”
It was five years ago when the two did a duet of “The Movie In My Mind” in celebration of the 25th anniversary of the iconic musical “Miss Saigon.” The event saw the original cast members joined forces with actors of its West End production for a show of a lifetime at the Prince Edward Theater in London.
Lea is best known for her Tony Award-winning role in “Miss Saigon.” At age 18, she originated the lead role of Kim in the musical “Miss Saigon,” first in the West End then on Broadway, winning the Olivier and Theatre World Awards, and becoming the first Asian woman to win a Tony Award.
Rachelle was cast as Gigi Van Tranh in the 2014 West End revival of the hit musical, then later made her Broadway debut by reprising the role of Gigi in the Broadway revival of “Miss Saigon” in March 2017. She currently plays Eliza Hamilton in the original West End production of “Hamilton.”
A self-confessed fan of the Broadway Diva, Rachelle credits Lea as her inspiration for venturing into international musical theater.
