Korean-American K-pop artist Kim Samuel paid tribute to his dad, Jose Arredondo, who was killed in Mexico on July 15.
“Happy birthday dad. Always inside my heart. You are a legend to me. I’ll be like you in the future. I miss you so much. Love you so much dad,” Kim Samuel, 17, wrote in an Instagram post along with his childhood photos together with his father.
He also posted photos of himself beside his dad’s casket and wrote, “And to all the people and the fans, thank you so much. Thank you for giving me so much love .. really thank you. I will be strong.”
Arredondo, an American businessman, owned several car dealerships in California, a real estate agency, golf ranger and auto body and paint shop.
The Attorney General’s Office in Baja California Sur in Mexico announced that a man, identified as Roberto “N,” has been arrested as a suspect in the killing of Arredondo.
Roberto “N,” 50 years old who hails from Hidalgo, Mexico, has been charged with homicide, the office said.
It said the suspect, along with other people, went to Arrendondo’s condominium unit at Residencial Gardenias in the resort city of Cabo San Lucas and beat the victim to death.
Laura Arredondo, the victim’s sister, said the suspect, Roberto Gonzalez, “was a friend of his for 20 years,” reported KGET. “They have one of them, but it wasn’t just one [person involved], it was more. But at least they have one of them and I know that person is going to talk.”
She described Jose as “not a fighter, he would see someone argue and he would walk away. He was not a fighter and for someone to do that to him, it doesn’t have a name.”
“He really reached out and helped the community. I really hope one day I can be the man he was,” said Kim Samuel, who was a finalist on the Korean survival audition TV program “Produce 101” Season 2 in 2017. He launched a solo career in South Korea after the show.
In a statement released by Bakersfield, California lawyer David Torres on behalf of the Arrendondo family, he said, “The Arredondo family wants everyone to know that as information is developing and provided to the family, we will keep the community fully abreast to the extent possible.”
“Finally, the Arredondo family right now is focusing on the legacy of Jose by continuing to operate the Arredondo businesses, selling vehicles and most importantly, continuing the Arredondo philanthropy and goodwill throughout the valley,” the statement added.
