All-female group Mix’in and April Rose Tolentino emerged as grand prize winners in the 2019 Pinoy K-pop Star hosted recently by the Korean Cultural Center (KCC) in the Philippines.

The 12-member Mix’in, composed of students, fresh graduates and professionals, performed IZ*ONE’s “Violeta” to bag the grand prize in the performance category while Tolentino took first place in the vocal category with her rendition of Korean singer Minseo’s “Is Who.”

Mix’in and Tolentino each received P20,000 as cash prize and qualified to the online semifinals of the 2019 Changwon Kpop World Festival. If they are selected, they will represent the Philippines in the grand finals that will be held in South Korea.

This is the second consecutive year that Mix’in won the grand prize in the performance category. They won first place last year with their performance of “Dreams Come True” by Cosmic Girls.

Judges this year were Happee Sy-Go, vice president of Pulp Live World; Gigi Santiago Lara, senior assistant vice president for alternative productions entertainment group of GMA Network; Raymund Dizon, business unit head of ABS-CBN Starhunt; Mary Anne Luis, head of the International Affairs Office of National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA); and Dasuri Choi, KCC’s K-pop dance instructor.

The 2019 Pinoy K-pop Star, part of the 70th Anniversary of the Philippines and Korea bilateral relations, was presented by KCC and the Korean Embassy in the Philippines and hosted by Changwon City in Korea, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Korean Culture and Information Service and KBS.
