Korean actress Lee Sung Kyung sang, danced, played games and showed her love for Pinoy fans at her first-ever event in Manila.

The 28-year-old award-winning star held her “Be Joyful” First Fan Meeting in Manila at SM City North EDSA Skydome recently.
Lee Sung Kyung opened her show by singing “Part of Your World,” a song written for the hit Disney movie “The Little Mermaid.”
“Mabuhay, Philippines!” she greeted the crowd, adding that the chance to meet them “has finally come and I’m so happy so thank you so much. I love being here.”

From modeling, she debuted as an actress in the drama “It’s Okay, That’s Love” in 2014. She went on to star in other dramas such as “Flower of Queen,” “Cheese in the Trap,” “The Doctors” and “Weightlifting Fairy Kim Bok-joo,” which became popular in the Philippines.

Last year, she starred in the drama “About Time” and last May, she co-starred with actress Ra Mi-ran in the movie “Girl Cops,” which grossed $11.65 million at the Korean box office.

Lee Sung Kyung said she has no specific standards in accepting roles.

“There is no specific standard or qualification but I think I was very fortunate because these roles were so different. And they gave me a chance to transform into someone new. I love that chance,” she said.

Among the characters she has played, she chose Choi Mikaela, a musical actress in “About Love,” as the most difficult role.

“Mika because I had to prepare a lot of things for this role and I had to practice for the musical. And the filming schedule was tiring. But I tried my best and I do like the role,” she said, adding that there was a piano scene in the drama that took 10 hours to finish because there was a problem in the filming.

In deciding to accept or reject a role, Lee Sung Kyung said, “First I ask if my fans would love the role. Second I ask if I can really fit into the role. Third if I’m passionate someone that I’m going to play.”

She said she liked playing the title role in “Weightlifting Fairy Kim Bok-joo.”

“Filming this role, I really like everything about it. It was really comfortable. Everyone around was so supportive. And it’s a role that comes once in a lifetime. I’m really, really thankful for the role,” she said.

Besides being an actress, Lee Sung Kyung is also into singing, saying, “I really, really love it.”

She unveiled her playlist that is a “combination of songs that I’m enjoying right now and songs that I’m currently in love with and I want to share it with you.”

Among these were “A Whole New World,” a song recorded by Lea Salonga and Brad Kane for the film “Aladdin;” “You’re My Best Friend,” part of the original soundtrack of the drama “It’s Okay, That’s Love;” and “This Never Happened Before” from the “Bonnie & Clyde” musical.

In the Ladder game, Lee Sung Kyung played the keyboard and did a sexy walk, and after which, she danced to TWICE’s “Fancy” and BLACKPINK’s “Kill This Love.”

Lucky fans also got the chance to win Lee Sung Kyung’s Polaroid photo, and have a selfie and photo with her. She also granted wishes for fans including having a selfie with a fan, recording a morning call, taking a Polaroid and giving away a t-shirt.
Throughout the show, she clearly enjoyed spending time with Pinoy fans.

“Is it over already? Sayang talaga. My favorite part of tonight is every moment of tonight. All the staff even in the backstage were so happy that you’re having so much fun. When I see the director of ‘Kim Bok-joo,’ I’ll tell him the Filipino fans are the best. Until then, I’ll try my best, be healthy, be safe, and I’ll see you next time, okay? I love you,” Lee Sung Kyung said.

A video from Filipino fans was also shown that carried the message, “You have come a long way, Sungkyoung. Thank you for your hard work and for bringing us happiness. Let’s be joyful together forever. We love you!”

Fans also sang “Happy Birthday” to celebrate her upcoming birthday on Aug. 10 and a cake was presented to her on stage.

“First of all, I’m just one person but to receive so much love, I can’t thank you enough. As soon as the video started, my eyes began tearing up. But I don’t wanna cry in front of you. I’m trying my best, okay?” she said.

She added, “Recently I have a lot of worries in my mind. Meeting you guys cleared it up. I just want to focus on my future so I can revisit the Philippines. Thank you so much. I love you.”

Lee Sung Kyung’s “Be Joyful” First Fan Meeting in Manila, hosted by actor and singer Alex Diaz, was co-presented by CDM Entertainment and ABS-CBN in partnership with YG Entertainment and Applewood entertainment agency.
