Christian Bables ecstatic over awards for his ‘Signal Rock’ performance

Though it’s been a year since Christian Bables starred in “Signal Rock,” his first-rate performance continues to conquer different film festivals, winning two awards this month.

The 26-year-old actor bagged the Best Actor award at the 6th Urduja Film Festival in Pangasinan; and the Bright Star Award at the Asian Pop-Up Cinema in Chicago, United States.

Last year, the Pista Ng Pelikula entry landed Christian his first Best Actor award, then the equivalent plum at the 5th Hanoi International Film Festival.

In an interview, Christian admitted feeling overwhelmed by it all. He is revved up to do even more projects that tell relevant stories.

The actor recalled time spent at the Asian Pop-Up Cinema.

“I went there without any expectations. I actually thought it was just a simple awarding. I expected to receive a certificate but I was wrong. It was a big gathering, a three-day event just for me!” he shared.

The first day was assigned to repeated screenings of “Signal Rock,” then came interviews with the Hollywood press the next day, and finally, the day of the awarding.

“It’s an awards night made just for me,” he noted. “Ako lang, walang ibang artists. Different events for the director, ganu’n.”

Christian is so thankful for this turn in his career that he sometimes asks himself what he has done to deserve this.

The actor added: “I’m very thankful habang nangyayari ‘yung tatlong araw na ‘yun.

The official website of Asian Pop-Up Cinema has a section dedicated to Christian.

“We were so proud to celebrate Christian Bables’s excellent performance as ‘Intoy’ in the Filipino director Chito S. Rono’s latest film ‘Signal Rock’ with our ADG BRIGHT STAR AWARD. ‘Signal Rock’ is a film that urges everybody do not forget to look back’ as Christian rightly said at the Q&A.” a section on the site read.

Still, Christian said continuously striving to become better actor will always be his fire.

“I’m thankful that I was recognized but it would never define me as an actor.

“Acting is a lifestyle of learning.

Of course, Christian comes fresh from the box-office success of “Panti Sisters.”

“Nakakatuwa na tinanggap ng Filipino audience and maybe the foreign audience ang pelikula namin. Thank you very much but more than anything else, I am ecstatic because we were able to relay the message of the movie. Likewise, we become proud allies of the LGBT community.

“Personally, this is my way of giving back because ang laki ng utang na loob ko sa LGBT community. If not for my role as Barbs in ‘Die Beautiful,’ I wouldn’t be here.

Asked where he thinks he is now in terms of his career, Christian humbly said he has no idea.

I guess hindi ako ang makakapagsabi niyan,” he said.

The actor is set to do three films, a teleserye, and a stage play. Christian will star in the Tanghalang Pilipino play “Balate” this November. Then, for the first time, he is among lead actors on teleserye co-starring Bea Alonzo, Rafael Rosell, and Jameson Blake. As for the movies, he said he cannot disclose any information about it yet.
