To wow and be wowed

With the long weekend behind us, and with the Miss International finals due next week, all eyes are back on Philippine representative, Bea Patricia “Patch” Magtanong.

In an interview on the sidelines of the launch of the #TaraSa Kawit local tourism launch held few days before she flew to Japan, the lawyer-beauty queen told reporters the contest starts not on stage, but the moment you step out of the plane.

“That’s why I had to learn how to do my hair and makeup,” she said. “Magisa lang kasi kami duon so we had to know these things.”

She added that while there’s the National Costume, Evening Gown and Swimwear portions, any beauty pageant contestant knows that even what they wear every day leading to the finals are being scrutinized and could have a bearing on how they ultimately rank.

Fortunately, Patch has the support of several local designers and stylists. It’s funny, though, that the fashion part is one of the “hardest” parts in the contest for her.

“As Binibini contestants kasi ay nasanay kami na laging naka-T-shirt lang when we go around (the Philippines to perform our duties),” she said. “Suddenly, I have to prepare and collect a complete wardrobe. Buti na lang I get to consult with our designers.”

At her send-off party, Patch vowed to bring home the crown.

The 59th edition of the Miss International pageant is on Nov. 12 at the Tokyo Dome City Hall in Tokyo, Japan.

Just as Patch is currently impressing people in the Land of the Rising Sun, she was certainly taken by the many tourist spots Kawit, Cavite has, as described by Kawit Mayor Angelo Emilio Aguinaldo.

Some of the cultural and historical places in Kawit are the Baldomero Aguinaldo Shrine, the Emilio Aguinaldo Shrine, the St. Mary Magdalene Church, the Gen. Candido Tirona Monument and The Old Municipal Building (Tribunal).
