K-pop, Korean stars who visited the Philippines in 2019

It’s a big year for hallyu, Korean Wave, in the Philippines as many Korean and K-pop stars visited the country for concerts, fan meetings and other events.

The number of K-stars coming here keeps growing every year, proving that the country has become a major market for Korean acts. 

JANUARY – Seungri, then a member of K-pop group Big Bang, held his first solo concert “The Great Seungri Tour 2019 Live in Manila: The Seungri Show” on Jan. 19 at the Mall of Asia Arena and he was joined by Dara. Momoland had their fan meeting “2019 Hello, Merry Go the Philippines” on Jan. 25 at Araneta Coliseum.

FEBRUARY – BLACKPINK drew a huge crowd as they held their first concert in the Philippines “2019 World Tour: In Your Area in Manila” on Feb. 2 at the Mall of Asia Arena. Actor Park Hyung-sik held a fan meeting for a local clothing brand on Feb. 16 at the SM Mall of Asia. Idol group iKON performed at the launching of Samsung Galaxy S10 smartphone on Feb. 26.

MARCH – On March 7, K-pop groups NCT Dream, NOIR and APRIL headlined the 2019 K-pop Friendship Concert in Manila held at the Mall of Asia Arena that was organized by Korea’s Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism (MCST). Former Wanna One member Park Ji Hoon held his “First Edition” 2019 Asia Fan Meeting in Manila on March 15 at Araneta Coliseum. The following day, Korean actor So Ji Sub held his Asia Tour “Hello” Manila at the New Frontier Theater. K-pop girl group Dreamcatcher held their debut concert “Dreamcatcher Concert: Invitation from Nightmare City in Manila” on March 24 at SM City North EDSA Skydome.

APRIL – K-pop boy band Stray Kids held their Unveil Tour “I Am …” in Manila on April 27 at the Araneta Coliseum.

MAY – Boy band CIX member Bae Jin-young, formerly of Wanna One, held his show “IM YOUNG: Bae Jin Young in Manila” on May 18 at the New Frontier Theater. Korean actor Seo Kang Jun had his “The Last Charm: Seo Kang Jun in Manila” event on May 25 at the New Frontier Theater. Korean stars Park Hae-jin and Jo Bo-ah were in Manila from May 9 to 16 to film the drama series “Secret.”

JUNE – BLACKPINK held a meet and greet event for an online shopping platform on June 6 at Samsung Hall of SM Aura in Taguig. On June 9, the K-pop World Music Festival 2019 in Manila was held at the Mall of Asia Arena featuring NCT 127, Red Velvet, Elris, Kim Dong-han and Sohee. Korean actor Park Bogum held on 2019 Asia Tour: Good Day in Manila on June 22, 2019 at the Mall of Asia Arena. The following week, K-pop girl group TWICE held their first ever concert in Manila “TWICELIGHTS World Tour” on June 29 at the Mall of Asia Arena. K-pop boy band The Boyz held their last Asia Fan-Con Tour “The Castle” in Manila on June 30 at the New Frontier Theater.

JULY – Korean actress Lee Sung Kyung met Pinoy fans at her “Be Joyful” First Fan Meeting in Manila on July 27 at SM City North EDSA Skydome.

AUGUST – K-pop boy band NOIR held their first ever fan meeting and concert in Manila titled “The Ninth Tour in Manila” on Aug. 10. Ailee, Hwanhee of Fly to the Sky and Guckkasten held a show on Aug. 17. Idol group EXO returned to Manila for the “Planet #5: The EXplOration” concerts on Aug. 23 and 24 at the Mall of Asia Arena. GFRIEND held their 2019 Asia Tour “Go Go GFriend” in Manila on Aug. 25 at the New Frontier Theater. Boy band NU’EST held their first ever show in Manila, the “2019 NU’EST Concert Segno in Manila” on Aug. 31 at Araneta Coliseum.

SEPTEMBER – N.Flying had their 2019 Live “Up All Night” in Manila show on Sept. 1 at the New Frontier Theater. K-pop groups Monsta X and Weki Meki performed at the second anniversary of Klook Philippines on Sept. 7 at the World Trade Center Metro Manila. Boy band VAV held their Meet and Live in Manila on Sept. 7 at the SM City North EDSA Skydome. Korean-American hip-hop artist Jay Park held his Sexy 4Eva World Tour in Manila on Sept. 22 at the New Frontier Theater. Korean star Jung Hae-in met Pinoys at his “One Summer Night” Fan Meeting Tour in Manila 2019 on Sept. 28 at the New Frontier Theater. Korean actor Park Seo-joon had a Fun Meet on Sept. 29 at the Mall of Asia Arena.

OCTOBER – K-pop girl group Momoland and former Wanna One members Kim Jae-hwan and Ha Sung-woon had their “Good Friends in Manila” concert at Araneta Coliseum on Oct. 5. On the same day, K-drama “Goblin” star Lee Dong Wook graced the #LoveKOrea Culture & Travel Fiesta 2019 together with boy band Target held by the Korea Tourism Organization (KTO) Manila at SM Megamall. K-drama “Vagabond” star Lee Seung-gi had his “Vagabond Voyage” Asia Fan Meeting in Manila on Oct. 12 at the New Frontier Theater. Former Wanna One center Kang Daniel had his “Kang Daniel Fan Meeting: Color on Me in Manila” on Oct. 19 at the Mall of Asia Arena.K-pop boy band GOT7 made a successful return to the country with “Keep Spinning 2019 World Tour” on Oct. 26 at the Mall of Asia Arena. On the same day, boy band ASTRO member and actor Cha Eun-woo met Pinoy fans at his “Just One 10 Minute” in Manila show at the New Frontier Theater.

NOVEMBER – K-pop idol group SF9 held their 2019 SF9 Live Fantasy #2 Unixerse in Manila on Nov. 16 at the New Frontier Theater. Korean star Jang Ki-yong had his Filmography 1st Fan Meeting in Manila on Nov. 17 at Samsung Hall at SM Aura. Korean pop-rock band DAY6 mesmerized fans at their Gravity World Tour on Nov. 23 at Araneta Coliseum. Actor Park Hae-jin’s Spark Fan Meeting in Manila was held on Nov. 23 at the New Frontier Theater.

DECEMBER – K-pop girl group ITZY made their debut event in Manila titled “ITZY Premiere Showcase Tour” held on Dec. 8 at the New Frontier Theater. Popular solo artist IU captivated audience with her four-hour “Love, Poem” concert tour in Manila on Dec. 13 at Araneta Coliseum. UP10TION member Lee Jin Hyuk held his 1st Solo “S.O.L” Fan Meeting in Manila on Dec. 14 at the New Frontier Theater. K-pop boy band Super Junior successfully returned to Manila with their “Super Show 8” concert on Dec. 15 at the Mall of Asia Arena. On the same day, band The Rose held their “We Rose You Live in Manila” show at Samsung Hall, SM Aura in Taguig. Boy band Victon’s “Voice to Alice” Tour in Manila was held on Dec. 21 at SM City North EDSA Skydome. BTOB member Lim Hyunsik held the last K-pop event in Manila for 2019 with his “Dear Melody in Manila” fan meeting on Dec. 22 at the New Frontier Theater.
