Korean actor and idol Kim Myung Soo returned to Manila for his first solo fan meeting and he was deeply moved by the warm response of Pinoys who went to see his show.
“It’s been a while since I visited the Philippines and I’m very happy to see you guys and for the warm welcome,” the 27-year-old star, also known as L of K-pop boy band Infinite, told the audience at his 2020 “Come with Me” Fan Meeting in Manila held on Jan. 12 at the New Frontier Theater.
The last time that he was here for a show was in November 2015 when Infinite held their “Infinite Effect Live in Manila” concert.
Kim Myung Soo opened the show by performing “It’s Okay Even If It’s Not Me,” a song he recorded as part of the original soundtrack for the 2017 K-drama “The Emperor: Owner of the Mask” that he starred in.
Last year, he headlined the drama “Angel’s Last Mission: Love” and played the role of an angel for which he won best new actor at the 2019 KBS Drama Awards held on Dec. 31. He is currently filming a new drama titled “Welcome,” that will air starting on March 25 on KBS2, in which he will essay the role of a cat who turns into human along with actress Shin Ye-eun.
“The role that I will play is a cat that turns into human. I have a pet cat so what I do is I observe and study my cat so I can play the role perfectly,” Kim Myung Soo told media at a press conference held at Novotel Manila Araneta City held hours before his fan meeting.
Visibly pleased with the big turnout of fans, Kim Myung Soo gave lots of love and hugs at the fan meeting and the different segments gave him the chance to interact with the audience. During the show’s Q&A segment, he answered questions written and sent by fans. Kim Myung Soo sang “Happy Birthday” and had a selfie with a fan whose birthday falls in January.
He discussed his acting career in the second segment. He said in choosing a project, he considers “whether I can digest the role properly. No matter how good the story is, if I can’t relate with the character well, I will not be able to do justice.”
Kim Myung Soo’s other drama projects include “Shut Up Flower Boy Band,” “What is Mom?,” “Master’s Sun,” “The Time We Were Not in Love” and “Ms. Hammurabi.” He said Hyun-soo in “Shut Up Flower Boy Band” was “my most memorable role as I was able to show different emotions through the character I played in the drama.”
He said he would like to work again with veteran actor Sung Dong-il, his co-star in “Ms. Hammurabi,” whose memorable dramas include “Reply 1988,” “Reply 1994” and “Reply 1997” as he considers him as a friend and mentor.
Fans voted to choose their most favorite role that he has played and they picked Kim Dan, his character in the drama “Angel’s Last Mission: Love.”
Kim Myung Soo surprised and delighted fans by coming down from the stage and going around the audience area when he sang “Love U Like U,” part of the official soundtrack for the 2012 drama “Shut Up Flower Boy Band.”
In the bingo game, a fan whose age was the closest to Myung Soo’s ultimately won and had a Polaroid photo with him. Those who didn’t win were also lucky as they were able to hug him. During the random gift box corner, Kim Myung Soo gifted two fans with signed tumblers.
He also greeted the fans “Maligayang Bagong Taon. Mahal kita” and took a selfie with each of lucky five fans using their phones.
A fan-made video was also shown on screen that showed Pinoy fans’ love for him. Fans also held banners that read “The wait is over. I am coming to you now,” a project of fan bases Infinite PH-Beyond Infinite PH, Kim Myungsoo Philippines and MyungYeol Philippines. He described it as “beautiful video. Thank you for the love you’ve shown me.”
At the press conference, Kim Myung Soo revealed his intention to release a solo album this year.
“I’ve been wanting to release a solo album. I’ve been preparing for that. I’m studying now which genre would be perfect, which genre would be well accepted by the public. Hopefully if all works out, I would love to release a solo album within this year,” he said.
He said his goal in 2020 is “to show different sides of me. As a singer and performer, I will try to work on my album. I want my drama to become a hit. Hopefully I’ll be able to release an album this year as well.”
Kim Myung Soo thanked fans and revealed that he was very surprised by how fans cheered loudly for him during the entire show. He also wants to come back to the country for another solo event or together with other Infinite members.
“I would like to thank everyone for the warm welcome. I’m looking forward to my next trip in Manila to spend time with you again. It was very funny as I was very surprised because of your passionate cheers. I’ve never felt it in a long time. The staff at the backstage are very happy as well. Please look forward to my new drama coming this March. I would love to be back with Infinite here in Manila. I love you, guys. Wait for me,” he said.
Kim Myung Soo wrapped up the fan meeting by performing “In Your Light” and “The Nights That I Miss You” and told fans, “I’ll try my best to come back. And like what I’ve said a while ago, I’ll try my best to come back with Infinite members. Thank you for always welcoming me with this passion and strong love for me.”
After the show, he offered his sympathy for those affected by the Taal Volcano eruption by writing on Instagram, “Due to the eruption of a volcano near Manila, I hope that no one will be affected by this natural calamity.”
The eruption caused the cancellation of flights in Manila and Kim Myung Soo was one of those affected. He was able to go back to Korea by taking a flight at Clark International Airport on Jan. 14.
Kim Myung Soo’s “Come with Me” Fan Meeting in Manila was presented by Management Leesang and Applewood, and promoted by CDM Entertainment.
