“This prosperity ball aims to bring hope as our presence tonight will be converted into funds much needed for the programs of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) particularly the Balay Silangan project and our relief efforts for Taal evacuees in the affected provinces,” said Dr. Rhoda Espino, of Espicom Productions, during her speech at the Prosperity Ball 2020.

“It is only fitting to share our blessings and continue to coordinate with them to share this fund-raising efforts. We highly appreciate your support and that to our sponsors. Your generosity shall go a long way,” Espino added.

Espino, owner of Metro Esthetico Skin and Wellness Center, said that her group intends to make the Prosperity Ball an annual gathering.

Organized by Espicom Productions, the charity event could be one of the most expensive charity events to be held in the country in recent years, according to observers.

Empowered Filipino personalities were also given recognition during the formal event.

The awardees were: Rep. Nina Taduran, Jessie Maloles, Consul Agnes Huibonhua, Chaye Revilla, Emmy Mendezabal, Peter and Mir Calina, Christine Daguno, Precious Joy Moreno, Sophia Lavides, Olivia Lavides, and Loie Magan.

Guests feasted on the sumptuous dinner prepared by the top chefs of Okada Manila.

In the 10-course menu were: Barbecued Suckling Pig and Assorted BBQ Meat Combination, Deep Fried Prawn Balls with Salted Egg Yolk; Asparagus, Carrots and Diced Seafood Soup; Deep Fried Pork Spareribs in King Dao Sauce; Braised Bai Lingzhi Mushrooms, Sea Cucumber with Chili Sauce in Bok Choy; Steamed Dragon Fish with Shredded Pork and Yunnan Ham; Cantonese Style Crispy Duck; Wok-Fried Egg Noodles with Conpoy and Enoki Mushrooms; Two Kinds of Chinese Pastries (Chinese Pancake, Snowballs); and Sweetened Red Bean Cream with Lotus Seeds and Lily Bulb.

They also enjoyed a night full of traditional Chinese activities such as the lion and dragon dance, Feng Shui and tarot card readings led by Master Hanz Cua, knot artistry and calligraphy demonstrations.

The Ball also featured the creations of renowned fashion designers Albert Andrada, Barge Ramos, and Paolo Blanco.

In April 2018, the PDEA launched their new program, Balay Silangan Reformation Program which will serve as “an alternative intervention” for people suffering from addiction and are not allowed to undergo medical treatment.

PDEA said that the program will incorporate general intervention such as education, health awareness and psychological/spiritual/physical activities like counseling, moral recovery, and values formation.

“Natutuwa ako dahil ang mga proceeds nito ay mapupunta sa mga kababaihan na biktima ng droga. Most of the time kasi yung mga projects napupunta sa mga lalaking drug dependents. This time magkakaroon na tayo ng programa sa mga kababaihan sa kanilang livelihood projects,” said Interior and Local Governments Undersecretary for Barangay Affairs Martin Dino.

Other special guests included Presidential Spokesman Salvador Panelo, officials and members of the government in the executive and legislative branches, members of the diplomatic corps, and industry stalwarts.
