The 17-year-old actress Kyline Alcantara is ecstatic to be working with no less than 66-year-old superstar Nora Aunor on the GMA series “Bilangin Ang Bituin Sa Langit.”
At a recent press conference tendered for the show, Kyline said the experience feels “surreal.”
“Kasi wala pong artistang hindi nangarap na makasama si Ms. Nora Aunor. Surreal at first, ngayong madami ng nangyari like promo and everything, habang tumatagal ang taping unti-unti nang nag-sink in,” she said.
The story of the inspirational drama adapted from the 1989 award-winning blockbuster movie from Regal Films of the same title revolves in three generations of women in pursuit of their dreams.
The Dela Cruz family members Cedes (Nora), Nolie (Mylene Dizon), and Maggie (Kyline) are grape farmers. Despite struggling to make ends meet, married couple Cedes and Damian (Ricky Davao) are warmly respected by their grape farm community. They supply grapes to notorious liquor magnates Martina (Isabel Rivas) and Ramon (Dante Rivero). Nolie, the diligent daughter of Cedes and Damian, is secretly in a relationship with the son of Martina and Ramon, Anselmo (Zoren Legaspi) who is only pursuing the former for his selfish desires.
When greed consumes Martina, she orders the plantation to be burned down since the farmers opposed to sell their land. This unfortunate incident has led to the death of Damian. Cedes goes berserk and accidentally kills Ramon. Making matters worse, Nolie finds out that she is also carrying Anselmo’s child – Maggie. Several years passed, their stars will once again align when Maggie meets Jun (Yasser Marta), the son of Anselmo with Margaux (Ina Feleo), and falls in love with him. Meanwhile, Cedes is set to avenge the death of Damian and their stolen land with her newfound identity alongside Nolie who will likewise give Anselmo a taste of his own medicine.
Kyline admitted having Nora there motivates them to give their best all the time, especially that she is doing the role the veteran actress played in the original version.
“Kinakabahan po ako,” she saidd.
But then, Nora, who was sitting beside Kyline, assured her all will be okay.
“‘Di pa kami nagkaka-eksena pero alam ko na magaling siya,” she said then.
Aside from Nora, Kyline is excited working with director Laurice Guillen.
The young actress vows to not do anything that would put a frown on the latter’s face.
Laurice, on her part, complimented not only Kyline but the entire cast.
“Magaling ‘yung mga artista. Overall magaling lahat kaya natutuwa ako sa mga younger actors. Siguro kung mahihirapan man sila to work with me is, dahil magaling sila lalo ko silang hinihingan na dapat ‘yung gagawin dito hindi katulad sa performance nila sa dating projects nila.”
In terms of working with Yasser as her romantic partner, Kyline shared their friendship has grown deeper since they met on the set of the drama supernatural series “Kambal Karibal” in 2017.
She pointed out the ice has broken between them so there’s nil awkwardness.
Kyline described Yasser as one who makes her smile.
“Masaya siya kasama, light lang, medyo madaldal lang minsan,” the actress said.
Asked if there’s a chance their friendship could turn into love, Kyline brushed off the notion. According to her, being in a relationship is not her priority as she wants to focus on her career.
Plus, her parents prefer that she starts having a boyfriend by age 25. Kyline doesn’t mind the restriction, relating they imposed it for her good.
“Bilangin Ang Bituin Sa Langit” airs its pilot episode on GMA Afternoon Prime on Feb. 24.
